The proximity area of a riverbed is an actual theme of today cities in their attempt to integrate the city with the nature in a holistic manner.
In its urban development strategy, Baia Mare municipality identified a major disfunction: the context of city-water relation and started the project of designing a part in the northern side of Sasar river, as a first stage of a more extensive approach.
In the context of the city our project is planned to integrate in the central area the river, not just as a space of “green” promenade but also as one with a potential to become a daily “stage” activator and a new cultural and social axis.
The implemented concept of equipment and furnishing invite being spontaneous as well as to planned events. Elements such as the two “stage” spaces with tiers of seats compositionally integrated into the onset insertion invite to cultural and leisure events.
Six pavilions and five kiosks are inserted on a distance of 1.7km and area of 37400sqm as necessary elements to activate and attract the urban community.
The conceptual elements of the objects implemented in the general context create a dialogue of the contrasts between a new “fluid” morphology and an orthogonal one. The materials and the chromatics integrate at their level the same contrasting discourse between “natural” and high-tech.
Our project opens up a new path in remodeling abandoned city spaces through minimal interventions that support human and nature interaction, cohabitation of species, and offering citizens a new perspective towards riverbanks and the rich flora and fauna of a city river.
Our design aesthetic is focused on the quality of dynamic experience in which all of the senses are considered to bring people closer to nature and create healthy places. We explored abandoned urban areas as a centripetal movement to reduce the city expansion towards surrounding natural zones in search of recreational green places. We targeted people of all ages by designing an all-inclusive place with easy-to-walk spaces, a relaxing natural environment, playgrounds, and pavilions; we designed it with nature in the city’s heart. We created together with the community, and we built with local contractors. We encouraged people to interact with the city’s natural spaces, to support them, and to be part of the transformation. We brought a no man’s land into the heart of citizens, using nature as our primary tool and supporting a new regrowth in the direction of a biodiverse urban environment.
